A History of Excellence from Two Family Run Companies
HM LOPES LLC is the result of two respected construction families the Hortons and the Lopes - joining forces to create a company built on expertise, resources, and a shared commitment to excellence. Rooted in Dighton, Massachusetts, both families bring decades of experience and a steadfast dedication to doing things the right way.
A Family Affair Since Our Inception
The Horton family's construction legacy began in 1923 with Leslie P. Horton, who built homes in the local community. In the 1950s, his son, Paull Horton, expanded into commercial construction, focusing on schools, industrial facilities, and infrastructure.
In 1978, John Horton carried the family tradition forward, and with his wife, Paula grew the business into a leader in civil construction for power generation, water, wastewater, and industrial markets. Today, John continues to lead as president of HM LOPES LLC, ensuring the company's values endure while planning for the future.
A Strong Player in Large-Scale Projects
The Lopes family's construction journey began in the 1950s with Gilbert "Sonny" Lopes, who incorporated G. Lopes Construction in 1964. The firm became a powerhouse in large-scale site and utility projects and established itself as a leading producer of aggregates and soils in New England.
Joining Forces, Combining Expertise
In 2023, the Hortons and Lopes formalized their relationship through the creation of HM LOPES LLC, combining their strengths under one name. G. Lopes Construction continues to operate independently, now focusing on the production and sale of high-quality aggregates and soils.
The Next Generation at HM Lopes
HM LOPES LLC also represents the next generation of leadership under Doug and Emily Mann. The "M" in HM LOPES continues the family legacy, with Doug Mann being a key team member since 1995. Together, they embody the company's commitment to spanning generations and maintaining its values.
